The Cancer Club

I can't claim to know Alison of old, but did get to know her better through the course of her illness through our joint membership of the Cancer Club. Lynda Handcock was the third member of our 'exclusive' trio. There is no rhyme nor reason, and certainly no fairness, but whereas Lynda and I have survived to tell our tales, Alison has not. And I know Andy you are struggling understandably with the whole question of 'why us?'. I wish I knew the answer .....
So having not really known Alison before (different aged kids etc.) I only had an impression of her, which was of a strong, capable, positive woman. Sure enough on getting to know her better following her diagnosis, it seems I was spot on - and all these qualities helped her cope with the last awful year of her life. I never saw her upset, she always appeared optimistic, and most significantly of all, never resentful. My abiding memory of her will therefore be one of true admiration. Andy, in amongst the terrible grief I know you are feeling, don't forget also to feel an enormous sense of pride in your wonderful wife.
Sending you and Alison's family once again my sincerest and deepest condolences.
